Open Dance Project presents The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, a dance theater adaptation of the L. Frank Baum classic. Join Dorothy as she is swept away from her life on a farm in Kansas to a magical Land of OZ, where she learns about friendship and courage with her rag tag group of friends - Scarecrow, Tinman, and Lion. Great for all ages, this humorous and poignant coming-of-age tale features Open Dance Project’s signature athleticism, theatrical antics, aerial silks, acrobatics, moments of ASL directly incorporated into the choreography, and good old fashioned family fun. ODP invites young audiences to experience the magic of dance theater through the lens of a familiar narrative that celebrates the creativity and imagination of a young protagonist.
With a whimsical score that features a fun mix of contemporary, classical and rock music, including songs by Duane Eddy, Oliver Davis, the Wailers and Herbie Hancock, spoken text and narration, and guest performances by Open Dance Project's pre-professional youth ensemble, ODP2, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz offers accessible entry points for young audiences and their families to experience the magic of dance theater and celebrate creativity and imagination.
